I’m finally getting around to sharing all of the projects I made for my daughter’s Winnie the Pooh 1st birthday party! I wanted the majority of the decorations to be homemade and I wanted them to be reusable- either for a future party or as decor in her future big girl room. I definitely needed to find a way to dress up her high chair because I figured many of the photos of the day would be taken with her sitting in it as she went to town on her smash cake.

This banner for around my daughter’s high chair couldn’t have been any easier! And it cost almost nothing because I used scraps of fabric left over from the “Happy Birthday” banner I made (see that project here). The only expense was buying the wooden “one” sign I hung on top and even that was under $15. You can find it here on Amazon.

The process is as simple as you’d expect. You simply tie the fabric scraps onto a long piece of crafting twine. I used fabric pieces of varying lengths and widths to make it more rustic looking. I used a knot almost like you’re tying a neck tie. Just drape the fabric scrap over the twine and keeping wrong sides of fabric together bring it around in a loop at then pull through the top. If you prefer a visual you can see me tying it in my IG reel here.

Once it was done I attached it to the tray of the high chair by looping the twine around clear mini command hooks I’d placed in several places around the front and sides. Then I added the wooden “one” on top using the same command hooks.

It was so easy and made a huge impact for photos. And it’s a great way to reduce waste and use up scrap fabric!
