Valentine’s Day Baked Goods

It’s time for some Valentine’s Day Sweet Treats! I generally don’t do a lot of decorating for this particular holiday, but I can’t resist making some themed desserts. Here are a few ideas for how you can spruce up some simple treats and make them festive show stoppers.

I typically make cut out cookies for every holiday but I have to say I think these might be the ones I’m most proud of! I was pleasantly surprised by how cute they came out. First- use your favorite cut out cookie recipe or you can even use store bought sugar cookie dough and a cookie cutter to shape it into a heart. Then mix up some icing- I take powdered sugar and pour in some French vanilla coffee creamer (you can also just use milk) a very small amount at a time until it is thin enough to pipe but still thick enough so that it won’t spread. Split it into separate bowls and dye however many colors you want, I did 3- purple, pink, and red. The best dyes to use are these gel dyes because they don’t add too much moisture to the icing. To decorate, I use a piping bag and start by outlining the heart and then filling it in.

To add the conversation heart saying I actually made paper templates with my Cricut, traced the letters onto the cookie by dragging a toothpick through the icing, and then went back and piped over the outline with plain white icing.

These peanut butter & chocolate cookies couldn’t be any easier. It’s just your classic peanut butter blossom recipe but substitute the Hershey kiss on top with a Dove milk chocolate heart. To see the making of these check out my IG reel here.

It doesn’t get any easier than this. Simply take canned cinnamon roll dough and shape it into a heart before baking. My husband actually made these for me for Valentine’s breakfast and I was so proud. That really shows that absolutely anyone can pull these off 😂

These heart cookies are shortbread, find my favorite shortbread recipe here, and I mixed little caramel pieces into them for some added flavor. I also have an IG reel of making these here.

While these oatmeal raisin cookies didn’t turn out quite as cute as I’d hoped, I still decided to include them because I think they have a lot of potential with a little bit of tweaking. You could do this with absolutely any drop cookie you like. I made oatmeal raisin simply because that is what I was craving. For the hearts I piped on a simple glaze (powdered sugar and coffee creamer, the same as I used for the cut out cookies above). I kept the icing a little loose to give it an abstract artistic look but ultimately I think that made it run too much. It would probably be cuter with a thicker icing and more abstract heart shape. You can see the process of decorating these on my IG reel here.

I hope this gives you some inspiration to make something sweet this Valentine’s Day! 🩷
