Valentine’s Day Sensory Bin

One of my goals this year is making seasonal sensory bins that I can use year after year. I’m not a big fan of ones that use dried rice or beans because I think my daughter would just try and eat it all. And I don’t want to use perishable items because then I can’t keep it to use again next year. Those priorities are how I pick what to include in my sensory bin activities. Full list of items are linked 👇🏻

I hope this goes without saying but ALWAYS watch your kids while they are playing with any of these sensory supplies. While I make careful choices about what to include in these to minimize chocking hazards or risk, children should always be observed to ensure safe playing.

Supplies

Another goal with this sensory bin was to not buy anything and just use items I had around the house, while still making it cute and giving it a theme. I started with these adorable silicone tea cups that are actually reusable cupcake liners that I’ve had for years and never used. That inspired the tea party theme. To keep it in line with Valentine’s Day I used pink tissue paper (because who doesn’t have a ridiculously large stash of wrapping supplies that you’ll never actually get through) and ran it through my mini paper shredder. I already had the pompoms because I used them to make a banner for my daughter’s book ledges last Valentine’s Day. I thought they worked perfectly to be the “tea” in the cups. The little sweetheart “cookies” are a project I made using my embroidery machine earlier this month. I plan to write up a tutorial for that as well but I’ve linked a similar sweet tart plush set from Amazon in the supplies list if you just want to buy something already made. Lastly I tossed in a toddler spoon and I expect her to use it to try and pick up the pompoms and play around in the shredded tissue paper.

While I love my theme and you are of course welcome to replicate it for your little one, I also encourage you to do what I did and pick a theme based off of items you already have and try to not buy anything at all! If you do that I’d love to hear what you come up with so drop a comment below sharing your creation 💜
