Elevated Game Day Snacks

It’s officially football season! While I am not someone who follows professional football, I am all in when it comes to college sports. Watching Aggie (Texas A&M University) football is a must in my house on Saturdays.

Whether it’s just me and my husband watching or if we have a few friends over, I like to have a spread of easy to grab foods available. Since we do this practically every Saturday in the fall, I like to mix it up from your typical game day snacks (popcorn, nachos, etc.).

Here’s one example of a board I put together. I included two different kinds of sandwiches, mixed nuts, and easy break and bake cookies.

The first little sandwich is vegetarian (for my husband) and comes together so easily. I just took roughly equal parts cream cheese and Boursin, mixed it together, and layered it on both sides of some wheat bread with thin cucumber slices in the middle. I like to think of it as a slightly stepped up and more flavorful tea sandwich. It’s so simple and anyone will love it.

The next sandwich is a classic- a simple BLT cut into bite size pieces. The piece that is slightly elevated here is I used arugula for the lettuce. I like the peppery bite this adds and it holds up better than some of the softer lettuces like romaine and iceberg. Other than that it’s just the classic mayo, tomato, and crispy bacon. And for this one I toasted the bread as well.

For added sophistication- plate it up on a large wooden cutting board and add some fruit 🍇

Add a little bowl of premade trail mix and some break & bake cookies and you’ve got something to please all of your guests.

I served it all outside on our porch since it was such a beautiful day and we watched the game outside!
