Harry Potter Escape Room Task 1: Romania, Dragon Sanctuary

This was the first task in the Harry Potter Escape Room / Scavenger Hunt experience. I had the task card and basket sitting in the basement across the room from where the Ollivander’s shop was set up. My husband was directed to the basket, covered in a red cloth, after he finished choosing his wand. Underneath it he found the basket full of dragon eggs.

Each of these was made to look like the egg of a specific breed of dragon. I found the descriptions of the dragons eggs in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them book. The clue card hinted that you would need to go to our unfinished storage area of our basement. There I had pictures of each dragon pinned up around the room.

I selected 5 dragons for this activity- Chinese Fireball, Common Welsh Green, Hungarian Horntail, Norwegian Ridgeback, and Antipodean Opaleye. In order to complete this task the player has to look through the non-illustrated copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them that is in their briefcase and read the descriptions of each of the dragons. That will help them decide what eggs go with what species. Here the dragons are matched with their appropriate eggs.

I made these images on my iPad in Procreate and I am definitely not an artist… but I couldn’t find existing prints or anything like that to buy, so I had to make them myself. By no means are they beautiful works of art but they did the job! I modeled them off of the images and descriptions in the Fantastic beasts book.

After the dragon eggs are matched up with their correct dragons, you give the participant their next task card. That would be Task Two: United States, Detroit Zoo

Blog post with full details for task 2 coming soon!
